Tom Glavine's Spring Training raised $520,000 this year for Georgia's organ transplant community, bringing the event's total to more than $3.75 million over the past 15 years. The last two years alone have brought in more than $1 million in support of the Georgia Transplant Foundation. The fundraiser was held January 25 at the 755 Club at Turner Field.
Attendees lined up to challenge Atlanta Falcon Alge Crumpler at poker or go head-to-head at ping pong with Atlanta Brave John Smoltz. Also in attendance was Braves player Chipper Jones, who hung out with newer Braves Macay McBride and Brian McCann and who bid on (and won!) a jersey autographed by Peyton Manning, quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts.
Other celebrities at the event included Mark DeRosa, Erik McMillan, Mark Lemke, Pete Smith, Jim Washington, Chuck James and the Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders.
A highlight of the night was the live auction, which featured items like a baseball signed by Babe Ruth; a framed piece signed by former Presidents Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford and Nixon; a trip for two to Rome, Italy; and a Formula One racing experience at the Las Vegas Speedway in Nevada. The silent auction also tempted attendees with more than 200 items, from jewelry and personal accessories to entertainment and sports memorabilia.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, attendees and volunteers for helping to make this year's Spring Training a big success!
