What is Quiet Heroes?
A Tribute To Our Quiet Heroes is a luncheon hosted by Chris Glavine, wife of Tom Glavine, and designed to pay tribute to mothers of children with cancer, whose love and dedication help to guide their families through the difficult journey. The event raises awareness and much needed funds to support pediatric cancer research at leading children's hospitals nationwide.
"This event is providing extremely overburdened moms with a break," Chris Glavine said. "But even more than that, this event, with the money we raise, is an important part of the overall effort to find a cure."
Past Quiet Heroes Events:
Through the efforts of Chris Glavine, CURE Childhood Cancer's Executive Director Kristin Connor and countless volunteers, the inaugural event took place Sept. 10, 2005 at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta. Proceeds from the event benefited CureSearch.
The event has has raised over $525,000 in it's first three years of existence.
The 2007 event, benefiting CURE Childhood Cancer, took place Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta and raised over $275,000.
Melanie Goldish, founder of SuperSibs!, a national nonprofit organization supporting siblings of children with cancer spoke at the event. The event featured a silent auction with travel, sports, entertainment, jewelry and other items up for grabs as well as a raffle drawing for a plasma TV and a diamond and crimson topaz bracelet.
The event also featured a live auction at the conclusion of the luncheon, with the winner and his/her family getting the chance to enjoy lunch and a wiffle ball game at the Glavine family's house at a later date. Two bids for $10,100 were received and Chris Glavine agreed to make the experience available to both bidders. One of the winners announced that he intended to donate the day with the Glavines to some families of children with cancer.
