WHAT IS PREVENT CHILD ABUSE GEORGIA?
Prevent Child Abuse Georgia (formerly the Georgia Council on Child Abuse) is Georgia's only private, statewide, community-based nonprofit organization with the sole mission of preventing child abuse and neglect.
HOW GLAVINE GOT INVOLVED
Tom Glavine started working with the PCA Georgia back in 1989.
With the organization, Tom spent several years holding a fundraising event called "Glavine's Field of Dreams," which featured golf and tennis tournaments, a breakfast of champions and a silent auction.
At a 1998 PCA Georgia golf tournament, Tom spoke about the event saying, "It's days like this that raise money. It's causes like this with people being involved day in and day out that spread the word and make people realize the problems that are out there and that hopefully, will help people get to the point where it becomes such an issue that it's not overlooked and it doesn't happen anymore, and the need for golf tournaments to raise money for child abuse goes away."
According to Barbara Touchette, Communications Director of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, the organization has several ongoing fundraisers and events, including a Treasure Hunt Gala, Child Abuse & Prevention Day at the Capitol, STARS in the Arts and an annual Training Symposium.
