Tom Glavine began his baseball career back in 1984 when he was drafted by the Braves organization. He made his Major League debut August 17, 1987 against the Houston Astros and notched his first career win one start later on August 22 -- a 10-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Glavine amassed a lengthy, successful reign with the Braves (which included two Cy Young awards, five seasons of 20 or more wins, and a World Series MVP), before heading to the Mets in December 2002 via free agency.

His 2006 season was his most successful with the Mets, finishing the season with a 15-7 record and a 3.82 ERA. He pitched 16 consecutive scoreless innings in the 2006 playoffs, finishing with a 2-1 record and a 1.59 ERA. Glavine won his 300th career game as a member of the Mets on August 5, 2007 -- an 8-3 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

In November 2007, Glavine became a free agent and returned to the Atlanta Braves, signing a one-year deal with the team he began his career with.

  Saturday, July 19

Tom Glavine threw a bullpen session today at about 60% effort. He was able to throw all of his pitches and had good control and feel for both his changeup and curveball. The plan is for him to throw three bullpen sessions on the next road trip and possibly a two-inning simulated game on the following homestand. He's shooting for a mid-August return date. I've added an article about this to the Current News section. There is also a new Site Blog.

Tom Glavine played catch from a distance of 130 feet Thursday with no problems. He plans to throw off the bullpen mound on Saturday. For more on that, click HERE.

Thanks to Mike, I've added a new Fan Encounter to the site. You can read Mike's Encounter HERE. Tom Glavine was shown briefly in the recent SportsSouth "Spotlight" episode on Bobby Dews. I've added Screen Caps to the Gallery. ETA: Tom made about 50 light throws from flat ground today and felt good. To read more, visit the Site Blog. I've posted an article about this in the Current News section.

David O'Brien of the AJC posted an update on Tom Glavine in the comments section of his blog. Tom has had progress with his stretching and rehab work and plans on traveling with the team and start throwing during the trip. If all goes well, he wants to be throwing off a mound a day or two after the All-Star break. You can read more on this in the Site Blog. ETA: I've added a new article to the Current News section about this as well.

Tom Glavine met with Braves orthopedist Dr. Xavier Duralde last night and was cleared to begin light stretching and range-of-motion training on his elbow. I've an article about it to the Current News section.

As you can see, I redesigned the web site. I also spruced up the Site Blog and the Photo Gallery. I hope you like the changes! If you notice any problems viewing the site, etc., please drop me an e-mail. ETA: I've added a new article to the Current News section about Tom's elbow. He is still hoping to be back after the All-Star break and avoid surgery.

Tom Glavine will be out of action until at least the All-Star break in mid-July. The MRI on his elbow revealed a small tear in the flexor tendon. The injury does not require surgery and will "scar over" with time. Get well soon, Tom! I've posted a Site Blog on this. ETA: I've added an article about this to the Current News section. The article contains quotes from Tom so be sure to check it out!

I've updated Tom's career pitching, hitting and fielding numbers in the Stats section. The schedule is updated with tonight's score as well. Tom should have his MRI tomorrow; if I see any news posted about the results from that, I'll of course post it. *Prays it won't be bad news*
