Ratchet is our pitbull or pitbull-mix. Or, that’s what we assume he is, though I’ve had some people ask if he’s a mastiff-mix or a boxer-mix or a visla-mix. Maybe he’s all of them. Heh. Who knows?
Ratchet came into our lives shortly after he was born. Hubby was out walking Clank one night and Clank stopped walking. When hubby turned around, he saw Clank sitting in the grass, bent over sniffing something. That something was a 9-ounce newborn puppy. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where they estimated that he was born that day. He was hypothermic so they had to begin slowly warming him up and get an IV started for fluids. He pulled through and we were able to take him home the next day.
We had to bottle feed him every two hours. It was crazy and stressful and absolutely amazing to see him begin to grow and open his eyes and soon after, start running around. Ratchet celebrated his second birthday on Dec. 2, 2010.
Recently he has been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy, after having 3 seizures in 2 1/2 months. He is currently taking phenobarbital for the seizures, and we are hopeful that it will stop them or in the very least, drastically reduce their frequency. So far, so good.
He is amazing, we love him dearly and we couldn’t imagine our lives without him. He enjoys sleeping, eating, taking walks, chewing on his toys, playing with Clank and the cats (and snuggling with the cats too!) and being an energetic ball of crazy.
