December Rundown
Been awhile, huh? I just realized I never updated on Ratchet’s latest bloodwork. We took him in a few weeks ago for additional bloodwork to see if his levels had dropped any after decreasing his medication. They have. All of his liver levels are in the normal range now (awesome!). 11 of his kidney values were still slightly elevated, but those had all also gone down since the previous bloodwork, so our vet was very happy with the results. We just keep him on the current medicine and dosage and test again in 6 months.

I haven’t posted in awhile so I thought I’d give another update on the happenings.
I’m still running and still averaging around 30 miles (sometimes more) a week. Back in November I took my first shot at 13.1 miles (half-marathon distance) and managed to do it in 2:09:30. The time wasn’t great, but I was pleased I was actually able to run that distance. I attempted it again today and managed to shave a few minutes off my time, finishing in 2:04:45. Again, not the best time in the world, but I was thrilled I improved on it. I’d LOVE to be able to get it under 2 hours but based on my usual running pace for all of my other runs, I’m not sure I see that happening. We’ll see. For now, I’m happy with it.

I’ve been slacking again. My apologies. It’s just that nothing interesting has really been going on lately so therefore, I have nothing to blog about. Which, is actually the case about 99% of the time so … really not much different than the norm.
We lowered Ratchet’s phenobarbital dose, as I mentioned in my previous entry. So far, so good with that (knock on wood). We did 2 weeks on 60mg (down from 120mg) and so far we’ve done 1 week on 30mg. Hopefully he continues to do well at that dose and remains seizure free.

We took Ratchet to the vet last Friday. He was due for his phenobarbital blood panel and a heartworm blood test, plus his allergies and ears were acting up. It was a busy, expensive appointment. We got the bloodwork back today. There were a few concerns.

We took Clank for his yearly checkup at the vet last Friday. It was our first time seeing the new vet office in its completion. The place looks amazing. The lobby is huge, the exam rooms are spacious, they have some larger runs in the back for animals they are boarding … the whole place is just great. We took a little tour and snapped some photos for use on their web site while we were there.

Today Ratchet was sitting by the back door with his head down, looking sad. I asked him if he needed to go outside and opened the door for him. He didn’t budge. I shut the door and said, “You don’t want to go outside? Do you want to play?”
His ears perked up.
“You want to play. Go get your toy”
He ran off and grabbed his toy.
I love him.
