Fan Encounters > Mike G.

I have been a Braves fan since I moved to Atlanta in 88. During the '90s we experienced many great runs and I am happy to be apart of them all. With the "Young Guns" of Smoltz, Glavine, Maddux, and Avery, we Atlanta fans had some of the best pitching in baseball and everyone knew it. While I enjoyed all of the Braves pitchers, I always felt Glavine was the best. I loved his quiet confidence and the way he went about his game. Whenever the Braves were on a losing streak, Glavine was the pitcher to stop the bleeding. His '95 World Series performance made me a fan for life.

One day my brother called me and told me he had been dating a girl. I later found out it was Tom's ex-wife! To make a long story short my brother dated her for a year and a half. During that time at Christmas I was standing in her kitchen, and in walks Tom Glavine to pick up his daughter!! My brother had bought a ball and a Mets hat for him to sign. He shook my hand and said, "I'm Tom, nice to meet you." He signed the hat and ball right in front of me. We exchanged some small talk, and then he was on his way. I will never forget that day as long as I live, and will be able to tell my grand kids about it! Tom was one of the classiest people I have ever met.
